Essential Oil Spotlight: Purify blend

Purify is a dōTERRA blend, comprised of Lemon, Lime, Siberian Fir, Citronella, Tea Tree and Coriander essential oils. This blend has many uses both mental and physical, but for me, it’s ability to support my physical health is most astounding. Purify, much like the name suggests, is an oil of purification; it can help to deodorise the air and to support with seasonal allergies.
 
A few years ago, my seasonal allergies were completely out of control. I spent weeks confined to my house, unable to open a window and with the air purifier going 24/7 just to keep me breathing. All of this was on top of taking the maximum prescription medication and an inhaler four times a day. It was quite scary, even with all these things in place, I still felt like I was fighting for air.

​There are some other oils that help open airways, most notably dōTERRA Air (called Breathe in some countries), but dōTERRA Purify is definitely my favourite. I put a few drops in my diffuser and it wasn’t long before I found that I was breathing easier. Now I have always been somewhat sceptical about such things and have always kept the possibility of a placebo effect in my mind, however, nothing else was helping. My allergies were physically closing my airways in a manner that no placebo could heal; but dōTERRA Purify made all the difference.
 
On one occasion, a friend came to visit me. We were talking about essential oils and I handed her the bottle of dōTERRA Purify to smell. She tried to smell it, but asked me if it was a mild scent since she couldn’t smell anything. While it’s not the strongest of oils, it still has a potent scent and I was surprised she couldn’t smell it. I already had it diffusing around the room at the time and as we sat talking, about ten minutes later, my friend’s body suddenly inhaled deeply. You know those sudden inhalations, when something clears and you didn’t even know you weren’t breathing properly until that moment? That’s what my friend experienced and suddenly she could smell the scent diffusing around the room. She hadn’t even known that her airways were blocked until dōTERRA Purify opened them up.
 
On another occasion, I had an appointment in town. I was afraid to leave the house as the pollen levels were still high and I had still been hiding at home with the air purifier and diffuser going. Yet this was an important appointment so I had to try. In the past, I have tried covering my face to keep the pollen out, but this makes me incredibly ill and I couldn’t walk into town like that. With my inhaler packed in my bag, emergency taxi money and my phone ready to call for help – just in case – I was almost ready to go. I decided to try one more thing…
 
I put a couple of drops dōTERRA Purify on one of my lava bead bracelets and figured that if my airways began to close, smelling that might help. Much to my surprise, it worked even better than I imagined. I was walking down the street and I could feel my airways becoming irritated, but just as I started to worry that they were going to start closing, I would randomly get a whiff of the oil on my bracelet – I wasn’t raising my wrist to my face, I was just walking with my hands at my sides, yet the oil seemed to be helping. I felt like I was walking in a little safety bubble, with dōTERRA Purify keeping me protected.
 
We are now well into allergy season 2022 and once again, I wake every morning feeling groggy, my eyes are puffy and my throat is scratchy. The first thing I do every morning is put my diffuser on with a few drops of dōTERRA Purify and within half an hour, I feel much better. It is a must have for my first aid kit, my go-to for defence against pollen. I still have to take antihistamines and keep an inhaler nearby just in case – although I rarely need it now. It feels to me that a few drops of this essential oil blend have given me my life back. I can breathe easy again and I’m excited to enjoy the spring and summer months!
